Back Sydney Band takes its name from Back Hampden Sydney Road, the back way from Hampden-Sydney into Farmville. Anyone in Farmville knows it.
The band is a six-piece with fiddle, built on the music that fills a dance floor south of the Mason-Dixon: modern and classic country, southern rock, the classic rock radio staples in between, and the 2000s singalongs everyone knows the words to. Since October 2023, BSB has played over 50 shows across Central Virginia, from Farmville clubs and college formals to brewery festivals, the New Kent County Fair at Colonial Downs, and a lakeside wedding at Lake Anna. At Hampden-Sydney's 2025 Greek Week concert, the band opened for Congress and Dexter and the Moonrocks.
The band brings its own sound and runs wireless with in-ear monitors, so the stage stays clean and the volume stays where the room wants it, whether that's a brewery patio or a reception hall.
Couples and venues can request songs ahead of time, and the band builds each setlist around the crowd. BSB loves to interact with the room, and takes requests during the show whenever it can.
BSB is also a band of songwriters. Lead vocalist Claire Daniel has two original singles out on Spotify, and rhythm guitarist and singer Benjamin Hager has a set of solo originals in the works.
I've had the pleasure of booking Back Sydney Band three times during my time as President of the Tiger Athletic Club at Hampden-Sydney College. They consistently put on an outstanding show, brought great energy, and drew huge crowds every time. They were always a hit, and I would highly recommend them to any college or venue looking for a great live music experience.
Back Sydney Band has performed at North Street Press Club on multiple occasions, and every performance has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response from our patrons. Their energy, musicianship, and ability to engage a crowd have made them a favorite at our establishment.
